[BREAKING] 14 killed in Denver shooting at Batman showing
At least 14 people have been killed, and around fifty wounded after a gunman wearing a gas mask set off a tear-gas device and then fired on those watching the early showing of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. An eyewitness stated that the gunman was dressed in what looked like riot gear, all black with a bulletproof vest and goggles. Police have confirmed that they have a suspect in his early twenties in custody. CNN quoted one witness saying he “saw a guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people”.
Police say the suspect was arrested in a nearby car park and was in possession of a rifle and handgun. They believe that more weapons may have been left in the cinema. The suspect told them that explosives were stored at his home.
Brenda Stewart from KOA News Radio told the BBC that as people in the theatre first heard the gunshots, “they thought it was part of the movie at first, then maybe it was a prank. Then all of a sudden people started hitting the ground, running out of the theatre”.
